Privacy

Sanatanshala does not require an account and does not sell or share personal information. This page lists everything the site stores.

In your browser

  • Reading preferences (script, meaning language, text size, night mode) and your chosen city are saved in your browser's local storage so they are remembered next time. They are not sent to us.
  • If you install the site or read offline, your browser keeps copies of pages you have opened. You can clear them in your browser settings.
  • A small cookie remembers whether you read the site in English or Hindi.
  • Your answer to the cookie question (accept or decline) is saved in local storage, so you are not asked again. You can change it at any time with "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page.
  • We do not use advertising cookies.

"Calculate for my location"

If you press "Calculate for my location" on the panchang page, your browser asks your permission. The panchang is then calculated inside your browser; your location is not sent to our server or stored. We only record that the button was used and whether permission was given, with no location attached.

Error reports and messages

When you use "Report an error", we store the page address, your message and, only if you give them, your contact details. We use these only to look into the report and to reply. Reports and any contact details are deleted within 12 months, or sooner once the matter is closed. Messages sent by email are handled the same way.

Visit statistics

To learn which pages are useful, we count page visits in two ways:

  • **Google Analytics 4.** Only if you press "Accept" does it set cookies (named _ga), which let it recognise a returning browser. If you decline or do not answer, it sets no cookies and receives only anonymous signals that a page was viewed. Google receives the page address, your approximate location (city level), your device and browser type, and the page that sent you here. We do not use it for advertising, do not link it to any other Google service, and keep its data for 14 months. Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
  • **Vercel Web Analytics**, which uses no cookies and builds no personal profiles. The site is hosted by Vercel and its database by Neon, both in the United States. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security, for a limited period.
